Mark Cuban: AI Will Make the First Trillionaire—and It Might Be You

Billionaire entrepreneur and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban believes we’re only in the preseason of artificial intelligence—and the possibilities are staggering.

In a recent appearance on the High Performance Podcast, Cuban said AI could birth the world’s first trillionaire. But unlike past tech revolutions that required major funding and huge teams, this one might just begin in someone’s basement.

“We haven’t seen the best or the craziest of what AI is going to be able to do,” he said. “And not only do I think it’ll create a trillionaire, but it could be just one dude in the basement. That’s how crazy it could be.”

🚀 From Garages to Trillions

We’ve seen this story before:

  • Apple began in Steve Jobs’ garage.

  • Amazon started in Jeff Bezos’ garage.

  • OpenAI was formed in cofounder Greg Brockman’s living room in 2015.

Fast forward to 2025: OpenAI is now valued at over $300 billion, with CEO Sam Altman personally worth $2 billion. Meanwhile, Elon Musk—with his own AI company, xAI (valued at $80 billion)—is on track to become the world’s first trillionaire by 2027, according to a report by Informa Connect.

But Cuban believes AI’s potential goes far beyond that.

“There’s always something bigger and better created by an innovative entrepreneur,” he said. “But AI just dwarfs all that.”

🧠 How Mark Cuban Uses AI Every Day

Cuban isn’t just speculating—he’s living it. He uses AI tools extensively in his personal life, including to manage his health.

Cuban suffers from atrial fibrillation (A-fib) and uses ChatGPT to log his medications and workouts, and to alert him if something seems off.

“And damn if it doesn’t do it,” he said. “Being able to have things identified that I might not have known to look for was insane—just insane.”

Still, he warns that AI isn’t perfect. He treats it like a helpful friend—smart, but not always right.

“You’ve still got to be careful and talk to an expert,” Cuban advised. “There are times when I’ll say, ‘I don’t think you’re right. Show me the evidence of how you got this.’”

🎨 AI Won’t Replace Everyone—but It Will Redefine Everything

Cuban doesn’t believe AI will take every job, despite popular fears.

“I’m not here to tell you that it’s going to replace everybody’s job. It won’t,” he said.

But for those who are creative, curious, or just bored, Cuban sees AI as a productivity superpower—and possibly a path to life-changing wealth.

“The things that you like to do… it might end up being the best alternative to boredom.”

🧠 The Takeaway

We’re in the early innings of the AI revolution. According to Cuban, the biggest breakthroughs—and fortunes—are still ahead.

In the right hands, AI is not just a tool. It's a launchpad for billion-dollar ideas, personal transformation, and maybe even history-making innovation.

So the question isn’t whether AI will change the world—it’s who’s going to use it to do so.
